GOOD NEWS!!! - Bridge no. 9 is about to be refurbished

Posted: Fri, 27 Jul 2018 16:27 by Weston Parish Council

Fine George's Bridge aka Scotch Bridge aka Bridge no. 9 (the canal bridge at the bottom of the track leading from the end of Park Land) is about to be refurbished 👍🏻

Work is set to begin sometime next week to restore the Grade 2 listed canal bridge that has been degenerating into a terrible state over recent years. This has taken some
time to organise due to the complex approvals and need for the right weather conditions in which to build using original methods.

The works are anticipated to take in the region of six weeks and it is hoped to keep the bridge open for pedestrians while the parapet walls are being rebuilt and the brickwork re-pointed (although it may be a narrower track than has been the case between the Armco barriers). There will, however be no option other than to close the bridge completely for a week or so when the existing surface is removed, tanking installed and new surfacing placed, which may of necessity include a weekend. The contractor has agreed to provide signage alerting people if the bridge is not passable.

I'm sure all who use the bridge will be pleased to hear Hanson's are investing in its repair and will accommodate the disruption for a few weeks 🙂

Please contact the Parish Council if you have any questions
